As the first official online event, the 2021 IWUF Wushu Taolu Virtual Competition spanned nearly 3 months from the online registration on August 15 to the announcement of the final results on November 9. It attracted nearly a thousand wushu taolu athletes from 61 countries and regions. Adopting the innovative model of “cloud” hosting competitions, including a cloud opening ceremony, cloud registration, cloud competition, cloud scoring, cloud arbitration, cloud broadcasting and cloud awarding certificates with digital technology as basis, it provides a brand-new event experience for wushu enthusiasts around the world. This event also provided excellent experience and models that can be used for reference in the professionalization, digitization, intelligence and cloudification of international wushu online competitions in future.

The WTVC offered 11 competition events including Changquan, Daoshu, Qiangshu, Jianshu, Gunshu, Taijijian, Taijiquan, Taijishan, Nanquan, Nandao and Nangun in three age groups – group A (12-14 years old), group B (15-17 years old) and Group C (18 years old and above). Wushu athletes around the world shot and submitted competition videos through the Competition Shooting Master APP. Wushu referees used a Professional scoring system to simultaneously judge from the Quality of Movements and Overall Performance shown in the contestants’ videos in real time. In order to ensure the fairness and transparency of the competition, the whole competition event was broadcasted from 28 Oct. to 3 Nov. (Beijing time) in over 500 broadcasting hours through the IWUF official media platforms including Wushu TV , Facebook, WeChat, Douyin, QQ Live, Bilibili and Weibo.

The success of the 2021 IWUF Wushu Taolu Virtual Competition marks the starting point of the IWUF wushu cloud events initiative. It marks a historical significance for the IWUF in promoting the digital transformation and development of the sport of wushu. Currently, the International Wushu Federation is actively preparing to hold an international traditional wushu online event in 2022.
