There are just 80 days to go until Indonesia hosts the IWUF 8th World Junior Wushu Championships (WJWC). The 8th WJWC will be held from December 3rd to December 11th, 2022 in Tangerang, Banten, Indonesia. The press conference for the 8th WJWC was held at Wisma AKR, Jakarta, Indonesia on Sep. 13, 2022.
The 8th WJWC is the official world championship event which is hosted by the International Wushu Federation. The WJWC takes place biennially and is the official pinnacle junior championships of the IWUF and features its highest competitive level amongst its junior athletes. The Indonesian Wushu Association is responsible for the organization of the 8th WJWC under the auspices of the IWUF.
Gunawan Tjikro, Executive Director of the 8th WJWC Organizing Committee 2022, Ilham Permana, Media Director of the 8th WJWC Organizing Committee 2022 and Vice President of Indonesia Wushu Association, General Setio Wasisto, Vice President of Indonesia Wushu Association, Ngatino Mento Salim, Secretary General of Indonesia Wushu Association and other officers from the Indonesia Wushu Wushu Association attend this press conference.
WJWC 2022 Executive Director Gunawan Tjokro said that this is the second time that Indonesia has been trusted by IWUF to be the organizer after the 2nd WJWC was held in Bali, Indonesia in 2008. As the host, Indonesia has hosted many international-level wushu competitions successfully and have confidence in making the 8th WJWC a great success. “We want every participant who comes back home with a sweet impression. And our athletes also have success in winning medals at the World Junior Championships,” he added.
On the same occasion, the 8th WJWC mascot named “WOLU” was officially unveiled. It takes the character of the one-horned Javan Rhinoceros, which is a protected and rare animal. Currently, there are approximately 75 of this species that only live in Ujung Kulon National Park, Banten, which is also the province where this Championship is held. The word “WOLU” itself in the Javanese language means”eight”, this represents the 8th World Junior Wushu Championships.
