IWUF Executive Committee Extraordinary Meeting

The IWUF Executive Committee Extraordinary Meeting was held on July 17, 2007 in Beijing. President Mr. Yu Zaiqing, Vice Presidents Mr. Lim Keng Yaik, Mr. Raymond Smith, Mr. Glen Keith; Secretary General Mr. Wang Xiaolin; Treasurer Mr. Patrick Van Campenhout; Executive Committee members Gen Giuseppe Falconi, Mr. Fok Chun Wan, Mr. Muraoka Kyuhei, Mr. Mohammad Reza Pourgholaminejad, and Mr. Sunny Tang attended the meeting.

 

President Yu Zaiqing presided over the extraordinary meeting. He extended welcome to the vice presidents and executive committee members who attended the meeting. He thanked every IWUF member federation and all the executive committee members for their positive efforts and contribution for the development of wushu. He emphasized that the Wushu Tournament Beijing 2008 was a special event organized by the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG), approved by the IOC; therefore, the IOC’s target of dialogue would always be the IWUF. The IWUF will actively assist the BOCOG with the organization of the tournament. The participation criteria and method of the Wushu Tournament Beijing 2008 and the numbers of team officials have been determined by the BOCOG and the IOC. This meeting will discuss and determine the principle of allocation of wild cards. The decision will be informed to all the IWUF member federations after the meeting.

 

Secretary General Wang Xiaolin delivered a working report to the meeting. He briefly recollected the process of wushu’s bidding for the entry into the 2008 Olympic Games and informed the relevant matters on Wushu Tournament Beijing 2008 and the 9th World Wushu Championships. He explained several points on the number of team officials and principle of allocation of wild cards.

 

Vice president Mr. Lim Keng Yaik expressed appreciation to President Yu Zaiqing, Beijing Organizing Committee, Chinese Olympic Committee and Chinese Wushu Association for the great efforts they have made for wushu’s inclusion into the 2008 Olympic Games. He said Mr. Yu Zaiqing and the Chinese Wushu Association have been working very hard to get wushu into the Olympic Games. It took time to accomplish the task. He fully understands the complex of the situation. The organization of Wushu Tournament Beijing 2008 is a great achievement for wushu. The allocation of wild cards indicates that care and consideration have been given to other continents.

 

The Executive Committee members approved the “Determination of Qualification Places of Wushu Tournament Beijing 2008”, “Principle of Allocation of Wild Cards”, and “Allocation of Places for Team Officials of Wushu Tournament Beijing 2008”.

 

Mr. Yu Zaiqing thanked every executive committee member for their cooperation. He hoped that everyone would work in unity and make efforts for the organization of 9th World Wushu Championships and Wushu Tournament Beijing 2008.
