Côte d’Ivoire National Wushu Championship Concluded Successful
On 10th May 2015, Côte d’Ivoire Wushu Federation (FIAMC) hosted the 8th Ivorian National Wushu Championship (Taolu & Sanda) at Palais des Sports de Treichville, in Abidjan, the country’s commercial capital. Siaka Meite, the Chairman of Côte d’Ivoire Wushu Federation and the managing board made every effort to ensure everything runs smoothly.
Abidjan lies on the south-east coast of the country in the Gulf of Guinea, it is the economic capital of Ivory Coast and is the most populated French-speaking West African city. One of its nicknames such as “Paris of West Africa” explains the city’s unpredictable and triumphant image.
The competition was attended by some 100 athletes from 20 Ivorian Wushu clubs and schools. The Taolu events included Changuan, Daoshu, Gunshu, Jianshu, Qiangshu, Nanquan, Nandao and Nangun. The Sanda competition included 6 categories for men (-80kg; -75 kg; -70 kg; -65 kg; -60 kg; -56 kg) and 1 category (-56 kg) for women.
With the advisory support of Ivorian IWUF certified Taolu judge, Dr. Selay Kouassi, the National Technical Committee has managed to apply the latest IWUF rules and regulations and all the Taolu events and boots took place on platforms which complies with the IWUF specifications.
Mr Fofona, the representative of Youth and Sports Minister, who attended the event acknowledged the progress made by the Côte d’Ivoire Wushu Federation in promoting Wushu in the country. The 8th Côte d’Ivoire National Wushu Championship concluded successful."
