Uruguay Ambassador to China H.E. Mr. Fernando Lugris Visits the IWUF


On the morning of April 28th,the ambassador of Uruguay to China H.E. Mr. Fernando Lugris and his party paid a visit to Beijing office of the International Wushu Federation (IWUF). Executive Vice President Anthony Goh had a friendly meeting with honored guests.

Mr. Goh firstly gave a warm welcome to Ambassador Lugris. He introduced the promotion and development of IWUF and wushu in the world. Currently, the IWUF has 146 members, across 5 continental federations worldwide. The IWUF has successfully held many international wushu competitions including the World Wushu Championships 13 times and the World Junior Wushu Championships six times. He especially focused on discussing the development of wushu in Uruguay and Pan-America.


The 11th Pan American Wushu Championships in 2016 was held in Lubbock, Texas, in the USA, with over 200 athletes from 12 Pan American countries. The 2nd Pan American Kungfu Championships will be held in August 2017, in Costa Rica.  


Mr. Goh stated that in recent years, the IWUF had conducted solidarity programs, which helps the IWUF’s National Federations in the Pan American Federation to grow and develop wushu through providing the equipment and technical support for the countries in the greatest need of it. He was very glad to see the progress which wushu had made in recent years. Meantime, he hoped that the local government could give greater support to the promotion and development of wushu in Uruguay.

Ambassador Lugris expressed gratitude for the warm reception of the IWUF and gave a brief introduction of the general conditions and advantages of the Republic of Uruguay. Ambassador Lugris said that wushu was very popular in Uruguay so that they would try their best to support the development of the Wushu National Federation in Uruguay. He hoped that the cooperation and communication between the IWUF and Uruguay could be strengthened and that more Uruguayan wushu coaches and athletes could participate in the IWUF’s training and communication activities to improve the development of wushu in Uruguay.

Finance, Press & Communication at the Embassy of Uruguay in China Mariano Fernandez and Second Secretary at the Embassy of Uruguay in China Federico Lage were also present to accompany Ambassador Fernando Lugris’ vist.
