Date Set For 2018 World Taijiquan Championships
The President of the Bulgarian Wushu Federation, Mr. Stefan Kolev, announced to the Bulgarian press that Burgas will host the World Taijiquan Championships September 26-30 2018. The IWUF Executive Board voted and approved the Bulgarian Wushu Federation to organize this event at the 6th World Junior Wushu Championships 2016 in Burgas.
At a press conference in the city, Mr. Kolev introduced some of the people who contributed to the success of the 6th World Junior Wushu Championships, and noted, "Two World Championships in such a short period is dream for which we have been working for many years, and we have devoted all our efforts to achieving it."
Professor Penka Georgieva, a key member of the Bulgarian Organizing Committee, stated, “We are glad that the 6th WJWC was successfully held in Burgas in 2016. Also, it is a great honor for us to hold a meeting of the Executive Board of IWUF, during the championships; President Yu Zaiqing of the International Wushu Federation, and Vice President of the International Olympic Committee, arrived in Burgas for the meeting. It was the first time that this championships was held outside the Asian continent,” she added.
Peter Dragoev, the Vice President of the Bulgarian Wushu Federation, noted, "Taijiquan is the most widely practiced style in wushu. It is popular due to its health building and longevity benefits, but it is also a very serious martial art," he explained.
The press conference resulted in articles published in Bulgarian on the website of Darik News - Bulgaria's largest national radio, and in the "Trud" ("Labor"), the biggest daily newspaper in Bulgaria.
