From June 25 to 30, Mr. Li Yongqiang, Chair of the International Wushu Federation (IWUF) Technical Committee, led a delegation to Brasília, Brazil, to conduct an on-site assessment of the on-going preparations for the 17th World Wushu Championships. The visit aimed to thoroughly evaluate all operational aspects of the Championships, ensuring its execution is safe, efficient, and successful.
The IWUF delegation focused on inspecting core facilities, such as competition venues, training grounds, hotels for officials and athletes, and meeting venues. They examined details such as the venue layout, equipment configuration, transportation arrangements, and logistical support. During the visit, the delegation held coordination meetings with representatives from each department of the local organizing committee. The discussions focused on key areas such as competition organization, hospitality services, media operations, and anti-doping measures, producing recommendations to both optimize preparations and address potential challenges.

The delegation attended the launching event for the World Wushu Championships in Brazil, where they were joined by chief officials from Brasília were also present. Additionally, the delegation met with representatives from the Brazilian Anti-Doping Agency. Both sides exchanged views on the doping testing procedures and educational outreach for the Championships, emphasizing their joint commitment to uphold the integrity and fairness of wushu.

The IWUF expressed approval of the current progress made by the Brazilian Organizing Committee, led by its Chairman, Mr. Marcus Alves, acknowledging that the overall preparations are on track and that the venues all satisfy international standards. Mr. Li Yongqiang stated, “This inspection has provided crucial insights into the final stages of preparations and established a solid foundation for the Championships. The IWUF will maintain close collaboration with the Brazilian Organizing Committee to ensure the event fully showcases the unique charm of wushu and provides a world-class stage for wushu athletes from across the globe.”
The 17th World Wushu Championships is set to welcome nearly 1,000 athletes representing approximately 70 countries and regions, cementing its position as a central event of the 2025 international wushu calendar.
