On June 26, IWUF Secretary General Ms. Zhang Yuping warmly met with Mr. Claus Peder Finnsio, President of the Sweden Kung fu & Wushu Federation, and his delegation in Beijing. The two sides held indepth discussions on the development of wushu in Sweden and Europe, the bidding for IWUF related events, and the recent positive progress of wushu on the international stage.
During the meeting, Secretary General Zhang commended the Sweden Kung fu & Wushu Federation for its efforts in promoting wushu in Sweden and across Europe. She noted that the Sweden Kung fu & Wushu Federation is a very important member association of both the IWUF and the Wushu Kung fu Federation of Europe. In recent years, the Swedish Federation has actively organized events and activities domestically, which has significantly boosted the engagement of the wushu community in Sweden and contributed its due share to uniting the wushu family. She also shared the encouraging achievements that the IWUF has recently made in the international promotion of wushu. This October, wushu will make its debut as an official medal sport at the Dakar 2026 YOG, a milestone moment in the history of wushu development. At the same time, wushu has been successfully included in the official program of The World Games 2029 in Germany. Through these major multi-sport events, wushu will continue to accumulate experience in event organization and participation, fully demonstrate its unique appeal, and lay a solid foundation for broader international promotion in the future.
Mr. Claus Peder Finnsio expressed that Sweden attaches great importance to the development of wushu. This year, Sweden actively participated in the European Championships and contributed to event organization and other aspects. In recent years, Sweden has built new venues with well developed infrastructure and supporting facilities. The Federation looks forward to further deepening cooperation with the IWUF and to bidding for high level international wushu events, jointly promoting the development of wushu in Europe and around the world.
The meeting was held in a friendly atmosphere. After the meeting, the IWUF presented souvenirs to the Sweden Kung fu & Wushu Federation and the two sides took group photos. Representatives from the IWUF’s Administration Department and Membership Department also attended the meeting.
