NF News | 8th Wushu Cup Successfully Concludes in Tbilisi, Georgia

On March 15-17, the Georgia 8th Wushu Cup was successfully held in the capital city of Tbilisi, Georgia. The event was organized by the Georgian National Wushu Federation under the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Georgia. Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Georgia Mr. Zhou Qian, First Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports of Georgia Mr. Loseb Baghaturia, and President of the Georgian National Wushu Federation Mr. Giorgi Muskhelishvili attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches.

In his speech, Ambassador Zhou Qian fully affirmed the development of wushu in Georgia, paid high respect to the efforts and hard work made by the Georgian National Wushu Federation over the years, and presented two sets of Lion Dance equipment to the federation onsite. He hoped that Chinese people and Georgian people are as close as brothers, enjoying the cultural development together, and expected that wushu would make new contributions to the culture and sports exchanges between China and Georgia under the strategic partnership in the future.

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Roman Vlasenko, the Chief Referee, took an oath as the judge representative, promising to uphold the principle of fairness and impartiality in refereeing. Mr. Nino Chikhladze, a member of the Georgian National Team, took the oath on behalf of the athletes. Teachers from the Chinese teaching group performed Wing Chun, Emeiquan, Nandao, Yang Style Taijiquan, Sanda, Taijijian, Chen Style Taijiquan,etc., which received warm applause and unanimous praise.

This year's competition included both Taolu and Sanda. Lasted for two days, it attracted more than 200 athletes from all over the Georgia, and was widely reported by local media. It is worth mentioning that on the eve of the competition, a special wushu "One Belt, One Road" training camp in Georgia was also successfully concluded, organized by the Chinese Wushu Association (CWA) . With the successful conclusion of the 8th Wushu Cup, the enthusiasm and vitality of the Georgian Wushu community was once again on full display.
