NF News | 13th National Junior Wushu Championship 2024 Successfully Concludes in Malaysia

The 13th National Junior Wushu Championship KPM-HIMALAYA SPORTS 2024 was successfully held from May 24 to May 28 at the Negeri Sembilan Chin Woo Atheletic Association Hall. The event was officially opened by His Royal Highness Tuanku Muhriz Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir, the Supreme Ruler of Negeri Sembilan, and attracted wushu elites from across the country for four days of intense competition.

The competition officially commenced at 9 a.m. (local time) on May 25. His Royal Highness Tuanku Muhriz Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir presided over the grand opening ceremony on the evening of May 25. During the opening ceremony, his Royal Highness was awarded the Wulin Supreme Honour 10th Duan, by the Wushu Federation of Malaysia, being the first Malay Ruler to receive this prestigious title.

The Wushu Championship was organized by the Wushu Federation of Malaysia and hosted by the Negeri Sembilan Wushu, Dragon and Lion Dance Association, with strong support from various organizations including the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Education, and the National Sports Council of Malaysia. The event attracted 387 competitors from 12 states, 3 federal territories, and the national team, featuring 81 competition events divided into two main categories: taolu and sanda.

The championship offered a wide range of awards, including the top four in each category, Best Male and Female athletes in the secondary and primary school groups, Best coaches, Best team, Wushu Moral award, and overall champions for both secondary and primary school groups. This grand event was not only a test of the athletes' skills but also a celebration of the spirit of wushu.

During the event, Wong Weng Son, the 2023 World Wushu Championships gold medalist, and Cheng Qi Tim, the 2022 World Junior Wushu Championships gold medalist from Negeri Sembilan, were personally presented with commendation plaques by His Royal Highness, in recognition of their outstanding performances on the international wushu stage.

In his closing speech, Dato' (Dr.) Chong Kim Fatt, Executive Board Member of the International Wushu Federation and President of the Wushu Federation of Malaysia, stated that this was the first time the championship had been opened by a Malay Ruler, symbolizing the successful integration of wushu into the lives of all ethnic groups in Malaysia and its wide acceptance and support. He believes this will further promote the advancement and development of wushu nationwide.

The 13th National Junior Wushu Championship KPM-HIMALAYA SPORTS concluded successfully at 12 p.m. (local time) on May 28, 2024. This event not only showcased the exceptional skills of the participating athletes but also highlighted Malaysia's commitment to the promotion and enhancement of wushu culture. Looking ahead, with more young people joining, the future of wushu in Malaysia appears even more promising.
