On September 1, 2024, the New Zealand National Wushu Championships were held at the Auckland Netball Center. The attending guests included Mr. Chen Shijie, Consul General of the Chinese Consulate General in Auckland, Mr. Zhou Li, Cultural Counselor, Mr. Zhang Junhao, Ms. Lu Nan, Dr. Deborah Russell and Ms. Helen White, New Zealand MPs, Mr. Wang Jianwen, Director of the Auckland Chinese Culture Center, Mr. Glen Keith, President of the New Zealand Kung Fu and Wushu Federation, Mr. Zheng Nan, the leader of the delegation from the Chinese Wushu Association, and others.

This competition was jointly organized by the New Zealand Kung Fu Wushu Federation, Incorporated and the New Zealand Hunan General Chamber of Commerce, with the Auckland Chinese Cultural Centre as a special supporting unit. The competition encompassed wushu taolu and sanda, with a total of 72 events. It brought together more than 300 wushu athletes of various ages from all over the country and also specially invited a delegation from the Chinese Wushu Association to attended the event.

In the wushu taolu competition participants demonstrated speed, strength, and flexibility through a series of continuous movements. Taiji competition attracted participants of all ages, showcasing the perfect combination of body and mind with strength as well as grace. In addition, as a taijiquan all-around (taijiquan, and taijishan) has been included in the official competition events of the 2026 Dakar Youth Olympic Games for the first time, the competition was even more intense. The atmosphere at the sanda competition was tense, with participants giving their all in exciting showdowns of hand techniques, leg techniques, and throwing that captivated the audience. Every precise punch and kick generated cheers with the rising enthusiasm and anticipation at the competition venue.

After a whole day of fierce competition, the event came to a successful conclusion. The winners’ proud and joyful expressions marked the success of this event.
