From July 23-26, the China-Niger Friendship Cup Wushu Championship and the 8th Niger National Wushu Championship were held in the capital, Niamey. Chinese Ambassador to Niger Lü Guijun, Issaka Aïssata Ibrah, an official from Niger’s Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, and Amadou Garba, President of the Fédération Nigérienne De Kung-Fu Wushu attended the event.
Young wushu enthusiasts from eight regions across the country—Tillabéri, Dosso, Tahoua, Maradi, Zinder, Agadez, Diffa, and the capital Niamey —gathered in the capital to make friends through wushu and exchange skills. The atmosphere was lively. More than sixty athletes competed in taolu and sanda events, showcasing the charm and elegance of wushu. After the competition, Niamey claimed first place overall, followed by Tillabéri in second and Dosso in third.
This championship was jointly organized by China and Niger as part of the “China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchange,” with the theme of promoting China-Niger friendship. Issaka Aïssata Ibrah, the official from Niger’s Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, spoke highly of the event. She emphasized that the government will continue to vigorously support the development of wushu, viewing it as an important vehicle for promoting education, social integration, and enhancing international influence.
Amadou Garba, President of the Fédération Nigérienne De Kung-Fu Wushu, stated that Nigerien youth love wushu, using it to build strong bodies and pursue excellence. He expressed his willingness to continue contributing to deepening Niger-China friendship and promoting people-to-people bonds between the two countries.
