On August 18, the opening ceremony of the Senegal Overseas Wushu Training Course was held at the Senegalese National Wrestling Arena. More than 50 people attended the event, including Cultural Counselor Zhu Xi of the Chinese Embassy in Senegal, President Gueye of the Senegalese Kung fu Wushu Federation, representative Dié from the Senegalese National Olympic and Sports Committee, representative Mbongo from the Senegalese Ministry of Youth and Sports, instructors from Henan University of Technology, trainees, and media representatives.
Counselor Zhu Xi stated that the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges and the Dakar 2026 YOG complement each other. He expressed his hope that the Chinese coaches would impart scientific training methods and competition experience, helping Senegalese trainees build solid skills and strive for good results at the Youth Olympic Games.
President Gueye emphasized that this training has been fully integrated into the overall preparation for the Dakar 2026 YOG, with clear objectives. Through this systematic training, he hopes to cultivate a group of high-quality local wushu coaches and reserve talents for Senegal, aiming to showcase Senegal’s wushu prowess on future international sports stages.
On behalf of the Senegalese National Olympic and Sports Committee, Dié noted in his speech that wushu is not only a competitive sport but also carries disciplinary and spiritual values that are important for the development of young people. Senegal will take this training as an opportunity to promote wushu among more adolescents.
On behalf of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mbongo congratulated the successful launch of the training course and encouraged all trainees to cherish the opportunity and train diligently, striving for breakthroughs at the YOG. He also urged everyone to adhere to scientific training and pay close attention to heat prevention, hydration, and sports safety to ensure the successful completion of the training mission.
This wushu training course lasts 48 days and involves about 40 participants. It is one of the important initiatives under the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchange to support the development of sports in Senegal, and it will help further promote and popularize wushu in the country.
