2024 Brunei WJWC Successfully Concluded! Road to 2026 Youth Olympics, See You in Tianjin, China!

The 9th World Junior Wushu Championships concluded successfully in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei on September 29, 2024. Hosted by the International Wushu Federation and organized by the Wushu Federation of Brunei Darussalam, the event attracted 498 athletes from 50 countries and regions, marking Brunei's inaugural international wushu competition.

9th World Junior Wushu Championships Medal Standings

Kicking off on September 25th, the championships featured five days of fierce competition, culminating in the awarding of 82 gold medals. .The taolu competition was divided into three age groups, with 64 events for both male and female athletes, resulting in 65 gold medals. The sanda competition was divided into two age groups, with a total of 17 events for both male and female athletes, resulting in 17 gold medals. Team China won 13 gold, 4 silver, and 2 bronze medals, ranking first; Team Indonesia closely followed with 10 gold, 10 silver, and 9 bronze medals, ranking second; Team Malaysia ranked third with 9 gold, 11 silver, and 5 bronze medals. The host country Brunei won 3 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze medals, ranking eighth. A total of 31 countries and regions from five continents won medals.

Gathering from Five Continents, Sharing Wushu with Youth

This championship not only showcased emerging wushu talent but also fostered friendships among youth from diverse backgrounds. At the closing ceremony, a video of highlights of the competition brought the audience back to those exciting moments. The video showcased teams from various countries and regions arriving in Brunei with high expectations and displaying their wushu spirit on the competition stage.

At the closing ceremony, the outstanding young wushu athletes ended the journey of the 9th World Junior Wushu Championships with a spectacular champion performance, showcasing the charm of wushu in every movement.

This event added a children's group (Group C) with ten events including elementary nanquan, nandao, nangun, 24-form taijiquan, and 32-form taijijian. This initiative aims to support the balanced development of youth wushu, providing a platform for young practitioners to shine and nurturing their dreams of becoming future Youth Olympic stars.

The World Junior Wushu Championships is the highest-level world wushu event for youth, playing an important role in the development of international wushu. With wushu becoming an official competition at the 2026 Dakar Youth Olympic Games, the participants in the wushu taolu B at this event are expected to compete in the 2026 Dakar Youth Olympics, making this event an important stage for discovering new wushu talents and nurturing future Youth Olympic champions. The outstanding performers among them will have the opportunity to shine on the Youth Olympic stage and write their own Youth Olympic legends.

With the ceremonial handover of the International Wushu Federation's flag to Chen Chong, Vice President of the Chinese Wushu Association, the Brunei championships concluded successfully, heralding a new chapter for the 10th World Junior Wushu Championships in Taijin, China.
